Brand new massive 21 inch GM Duramax HD cooling fan with special fan clutch which will adapt the Duramax high volume fan to serpentine belt driven 6.5 Turbo Diesel 1999-1/2 thru 2002 with the screw-on type clutch (as pictured) in C/K trucks and G vans. Replace your inefficient 8 or 9 blade 20 inch stock fan and tired fan clutch with the massive/aggressive-pitch 21 inch Duramax fan and brand new clutch for less money then just a new fan clutch alone! This blade is the same GM part as used on all Duramax diesel engines. The clutch is a HD made in USA unit modified to adapt the Duramax fan to the 6.5 TD water pump, and engagement is approximately 15DF sooner then your stock clutch for better cooling.

This fan really sucks! Just stand in front of the grill, it will almost pull you in! It will not hurt mileage as the clutch only engages it when necessary. A must for towing, but highly recommended for all 6.5's to prevent overheating, which we all know are prone to. This fan alone makes a big difference in temperature. and will keep your diesel super cool and help prevent the common problem of head cracking. Now is the time to get it ready for the heat!

180 degree thermostats are required for this fan to work properly. See p/n ssd-16401 also on our website.

The factory fan shroud will not need trimming in most applications, but some will need a snip of about a 1/2 inch. Takes only minutes to install. Buy from the experts on GM 6.5 TD's.

The air temperature coming through the radiator is sensed by the bi-metal thermal spring on the front of the thermal fan clutch. It expands and contracts with the change in air temperature operating a valve inside of the clutch. When cold, the silicone drive fluid is pumped from the working area to the reservoir. When hot, the valve opens allowing fluid from the reservoir to be transferred to the working area thereby increasing the fan speed. The clutch disengages as the air temperature decreases, closing the valve and allowing the silicone fluid to be pumped back into the reservoir.

A thermal fan clutch is engaged on a cold startup because the fluid drains into the working area when the engine is shut off. The fan clutch will slow down shortly after startup as a result of a pumping action produced by a difference in speed between the shaft and the body of the clutch.
